"Enabling girls to attend school is literally a matter of life and death. Education, especially for girls and women, is the best way to break the cycle of ill health, hunger and poverty."

Our Approach

The approach of Women's Global to the problem of rural poverty seeks to address the root causes of poverty such as the lack of education, limited opportunities for women and girls, and insufficient resources for local community organizations. Through investing in education, focusing on women and girls and building the capacity of local organizations, our programs emphasize sustainability and encourage self-sufficiency and self-reliance.

Women’s Global employs long-term solutions to issues of rural poverty by implementing programs that focus on:

Investing in Human Potential Through Education. By providing access to education, Women’s Global is addressing one of the sources of underdevelopment. Without an educated population, a country cannot succeed and is left to the mercy of outside assistance. Women’s Global provides women and girls with access to education and resources for them to create their own futures.

Focus on Women and Girls. We focus our efforts on women and girls because that is where we believe we can have the most impact. The health and economic benefits of providing a woman or girl the opportunity to receive an education far exceeds helping just that individual woman or girl; they reach the entire family, village and region.

Building the Capacity of Local Organizations. We work in partnership with local community-based organizations, building upon their efforts and resources. We provide our partner organizations with scholarship funds and technical assistance with developing campaigns for girls’ education awareness programs. Through these partnerships, Women’s Global is helping to strengthen communities from within to ensure our programs have a lasting effect.

We believe:

  • Education and investment in human potential are the best ways to achieve economic and social development
  • Grassroots initiatives and local activism are agents for positive global social change
  • Women possess innate capabilities and motivation to be leaders in their communities
  • Women have important knowledge that should be shared across borders
  • Access to education, information and training is fundamental to women realizing their full capabilities
  • Sustainable development cannot be achieved without women’s active participation in social, economic and political decision-making.
